What is Mjølnir?
Mjølnir is a computing cluster funded by a consortium of principal investigators affiliated with the Globe Institute at the University of Copenhagen. Access to Mjolnir is restricted to employees or collaborators associated with these PIs.
Mjölnir (or Mjolnir for non-Danish keyboards) derives its name from the legendary hammer wielded by the Norse god Thor in Norse mythology. It serves not only as a formidable weapon but also as a divine tool for bestowing blessings.
We chose to name our HPC infrastructure "Mjolnir" as we will be using Mjolnir to hammer vast amounts of big data, effectively address even the smallest research inquiries through powerful computational analysis.
Where is Mjølnir located?
Mjolnir is housed within one of UCPH's data centers, ensuring that all servers within the Mjolnir cluster are seamlessly integrated into the UCPH-IT infrastructure, complete with its robust security protocols.
Mjolnir boasts an expansive and continually expanding collection of software and scientific tools, with over 1,000 currently installed and accessible. If a user needs specific tools or databases not yet present on Mjolnir, we strive to accommodate their requests by making them available whenever possible.
Mjolnir hosts an online Discord community where members actively assist one another, with additional support overseen by Bent Petersen, who manages the cluster.
