Personal project folder

When you are working at Mjolnir there are some folders you need to be aware of.

/home/<KU-ID>

This directory serves as your home directory, intended strictly for non-data storage purposes. As such, there's a strict storage limit of 100GB imposed here.

/projects/mjolnir1/people/<KU-ID>

This location is designated for storing all of your data. It's crucial to minimize storage usage to cut costs. Remove unnecessary files regularly. You can assess the total storage occupied in any directory, including subfolders, by using the 'ncdu' command.

Larger files and completed projects should be compressed using tools like gzip or bzip2. Additionally, upload finalized project data, including raw data, results, and notes, to ERDA.

Remember, storage expenses can accumulate, and your Principal Investigator (PI) or the project you're involved with will incur these costs.

By default, other users cannot access your directory for security reasons. However, it's possible to adjust permissions on your project folder to enable others to access your data. It's important to note that this action is undertaken at your own risk, as it grants all users at Mjolnir access to your data. Additionally, KU-IT cron jobs will automatically reset permissions back to default, restricting access to you only.
